And here’s where you reveal the fact that you’re making a lot of assumptions about everyone who is against random matchmaking.
There is no “fuck you, got mine” involved in this particular discussion. This isn’t a legitimate gating off of content.
Although always being on fans’ PvE wishlist, Destiny in its current incarnation lacks the capacity for matchmaking with raids, but it’s possible that the action-RPG could see that change.
Nov 2, I recently got into a discussion with my friends who play Destiny on PS4. I play on PC. I was complaining how there was no easy way for me to do the Nightfall other than jumping through hoops LFG, Companion app. They disagree and seemed to think that it was a good thing that this was not an option due to how difficult the content can be and the amount of teamwork it requires and also that Bungie’s official stance is basically that they want you to make friends through using these vetting systems.
Destiny 2 does have the Guided Games system. But this does not really prove as adequate as regular matchmaking. There is the arbitrary stipulation that you must either be a solo player seeking to match with 2 other players who are of the same clan or vicd versa. Obviously, the queues are extremely lopsided with solo being upwards of a half hour sometimes vs a minute or two with a clan member. Adding matchmaking would not undermine the other systems that people if they want to avoid playing with randoms.
I feel the idea that Bungie does not allow matchmaking at these levels because it isn’t in line with their philosophy is really just them being willingly obtuse. While Bungie is fully within their artistic rights to make this decision, it feels to be a bit disregardful of their community. At what point is a developer expected to put their own “philosophy” on design aside for the wants of the community they are catering to?

I used to love taking newbies through raids as you can hear the excitement in their voices when they do something for the first time. I’m quiet patient with raiding as long as people are trying, doing what their role is and if they get stuck and ask for help, I have no issues with that what so ever. We did a raid on saturday, we were very clear about what our position was we wanted to go in blind we had 2 fantastic guys from ocuk with us who knew parts of it and after a few give it a go attempts, they provided an outline – it was a great laugh and I think we all had fun.

You won’t get to fail repeatedly because at least two people from your random group will rage quit after the first wipe and then you’ll get to go replace them. I’m fairly certain that the notion of random raid groups multiplied by the toxicity of the console shooter community is the actual definition of Hell, and I will gladly stick to the rest of the game should I ever be unable to put together a pre-made group.
Well there’s no built in chat system, so that would temper the toxicity quite a bit. I don’t recall anything that resembled a “toxic” experience throughout the entirety of the alpha or beta. Hopefully that will stay true for the full game. Although to be fair, the most toxic MMO players are almost always end-game.
Raids, 6 people no matchmaking
Bucshot I have talked about this a few times, but there are a lot of potential issues when it comes to matchmaking for a raid. First off, raids require a lot of mechanical coordination. Strikes do not require that type of coordination. In most cases, raid teams bang their heads up against the raid to figure out the mechanics for hours when they first drop. If you tried to do that in a PUG, people would be leaving all the time, leaving your group with not enough people.
Secondly, but closely related, are that since coordination is required, everyone needs to have a mic and speak the same language.

How Destiny 2 can overcome its predecessor’s shortfalls: The sequel, however, is an opportunity for a drastic overhaul. Some of this may be happening, some of it is just wishful thinking for now. We want towns filled with vendors and mission opportunities, small outposts with NPCs to chat with, and we want them to be spread seamlessly across otherwise hostile planets, not hidden behind loading screens. Let’s see the good guys and bad guys clash, with friendly NPCs out in the wild, and enemies coming to our doorstep.
